Troy Deeney Says Arsenal Sold Player Who Could Have Replaced Martin Odegaard

Troy Deeney says Arsenal sold player who could have replaced Martin Odegaard

Watford striker Troy Deeney has claimed that Arsenal made a mistake in selling Emile Smith Rowe to Aston Villa in 2018.

Deeney, who played alongside Smith Rowe at Watford, believes that the 21-year-old has the potential to be a top player and that Arsenal should have kept him at the club.

"I think Arsenal made a mistake in selling Emile Smith Rowe," Deeney told talkSPORT.

"He's a top player and I think he could have been a real asset to Arsenal in the future."

Smith Rowe has been in impressive form for Aston Villa this season, scoring 10 goals in 28 appearances.

His performances have led to calls for him to be included in the England squad for the upcoming World Cup.

Deeney believes that Smith Rowe has the ability to play for one of the top clubs in the world.

"He's got everything," Deeney said.

"He's got pace, skill, and he can score goals. I think he could play for any of the top clubs in the world."

Arsenal sold Smith Rowe to Aston Villa for £3.5 million in 2018.

The Gunners have since signed Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid in a deal worth £30 million.

Deeney believes that Smith Rowe is a better player than Odegaard and that Arsenal should have kept him at the club.

"I think Emile Smith Rowe is a better player than Martin Odegaard," Deeney said.

"He's younger, he's English, and he's got more potential. I think Arsenal made a mistake in selling him."
